A worrying development at recent Crime Contract Compliance Audits was the observation that LSC auditors are nil-assessing police station claims where the DSCC Reference does not appear on the file. Having crawled out of bed at 3am to attend on young Kyle for three hours and being verbally abused by the little dear in the process, it must be heart-breaking to learn that you aren't going to be reimbursed for it but for one missing reference number. So please ensure that your files contain the reference. We recommend including a box for it on your police station attendance form. Please note that where a client attends the Police Station by prior agreement with the Police, you must inform the DSCC within 48 hours. In situations such as:
You must inform the DSCC by telephone before advising the Client. In all these instances the LSC will again look for a DSCC reference. Please see the LSC website for further guidance.

What has the PDS ever done for us? One area where crime practitioners often encounter problems at peer review is at the police station. Peer reviewers want to see firms demonstrate competence given the vital nature of advice at this stage. Having some form of standard checklist/attendance note is viewed as de rigeur by professionals. Many of our client firms have adopted the PDS Police Station Attendance form as an effective means of getting the right information down. We think it seems to work well and fee-earners seem to speak highly of it. It's available from the PDS website. Contributions regarding what else the PDS has ever done for us will be gratefully received. Crucifixion anyone?
